Important Changes to Club Racing Arrangements 2023

Published 09:15 on 20 Mar 2023

The 2023 racing season is only one week away! There are some important changes that all competitors, Race Officers and Support Boat Crews need to be aware of. Please see the summary of changes below.

For the full updated sequence of flags for both starts and shorten course finishes see this RACING CRIB SHEET.

An updated set of Sailing Instructions has been published in the Document Library under the Members Section of the website and can also be downloaded HERE.

An updated Race Officer Guide has also been published under the Members Section of the website and can be downloaded HERE. It will also be emailed to Race Officers separately.

Separate Morning and Afternoon Races:

  • There will be a break ashore in between the morning and afternoon races.
  • Afternoon race start times will vary but will start NO EARLIER than 1pm.
  • The Summer Series is split into a separate Morning Series and Afternoon Series. Those who only wish to race for half a day can therefore complete a full series.

Changes to Fleets and Start Times:
Sunday Series Races will now be run as follows:

  • Fast Cat and Medium Cat Fleets Red Class Flag.
These two fleets will start and finish together. It may be possible to set separate courses (subject to conditions) but both fleets will finish on the same lap when the Red Class Flag and Shorten Course is flown.
  • Dart 18s Blue Class Flag
The Dart 18s will have their own fleet status this year. Their start sequence will follow on from the Fast/Medium Cats.
  • Dart 15s Green Class Flag
Dart 15s will start eight minutes later, following on from the Dart 18s. No other changes.
  • Monohull Handicap and Short Course Fleets Yellow Class Flag
Monohull and Short Course will start eight minutes later, still following on from the Dart 15s as before. No other changes.
A typical Sunday morning sequence will be as follows:
10:55am Fast & Medium Cat five minute sequence starts Red Class Flag Raised.
11am Fast Cat and Medium Cat Start
11:03am Dart 18 five minute sequence starts Blue Class Flag Raised.
11:08am Dart 18 start
11:11am Dart 15 five minute sequence starts Green Class Flag Raised
11:16am Dart 15 start
11:19am Monohull & Short Course five minute sequence starts Yellow Flag Raised
11:24am Monohull and Short Course start.

Note: five, four, one flags and hooters will still apply. The above is a summary only.

For the full updated sequence of flags for both starts and shorten course finishes see this RACING CRIB SHEET.

Bank Holiday Series Race will still be run as three fleets Fast (Red Flag), Medium (Green Flag) and Slow (Yellow Flag). There will also be a break ashore between races.

One-off races will be run as set out in the Sailing Instructions - Appendix C or the Year Book.

If you have any queries about racing, please chat to your fleet captain:

Monohull/Handicap Jeremy Featherstone
Cat Fleet Daniel Sturm

We look forward to seeing you on the water.
